The news of the autumn

The autumn time, unfortunately, did not add much certainty about the future plans of our symposium. Well, the COVID-19 crisis has broken a lot of plans and intentions, and will probably break it more. The symposium is going to take place, but it is impossible to say when exactly.

Under these conditions, we decided not to renew the registration of the mire2020.ru domain, which expires on October 13, 2020. The site remains online, but for the time being it will only be available at mire2020.blogspot.com

Looking forward to more positive news.

The September 2020 meeting is canceled

Dear Colleagues,

We are really sorry to announce that due to the uncertain situation with the development of the COVID-19 pandemic (especially concerning international contacts), we made an uneasy decision to cancel the symposium, scheduled for September 2020. Hopefully, a symposium with the same name and topic will be held here some time in the nearest future, e.g. in September 2021. All persons registered for the symposium are included in the list for the following newsletters. Besides, the site of the symposium (www.mire2020.ru) stays online. Stay tuned!

The steering committee wishes good health and a successful overcoming of the self-isolation regime for you and your families.

(Russia, Petrozavodsk, September
14-18, 2020)

SECOND CIRCULAR

Dear colleagues!

We are happy to inform you that, despite some arising problems, we keep preparing for our symposium. The second information letter provides more information on the abstract preparation, payment of registration fees and other practical aspects of the event.

At the moment, about a hundred people have registered for participation and despite that general registration via the Internet has been closed since March 20, we leave the possibility of registering for participation without a report and without publishing abstracts personally by contacting the organizing committee

You can download the full Second Circular from here.

Registrartion is closed

Well, we believe that enough time has been given for registration, and all interested person have already registered (nearly 100 participants from 3 countries have done). If not, we still leave them a chance for late registration with the email sent to mire2020@krc.karelia.ru marked “Late registration”.

Keep checking for updates - news coming soon.

Excursions page

Despite the frightening news from Europe, we continue to prepare for our symposium. Hopefully, we can overcome it within the nearest months. New information is going to be here very soon. In the meantime, on the last day of the symposium registration, we start a page dedicated to field trips planned during the meeting.

Field excursions are as much a part of a symposium as presentations and round tables. Most likely, this year we will organize two excursions on your choice from two noteworthy objects in South Karelia. On the page of excursions, you can familiarize yourself with these objects and download guides with more information.

Accommodation Page

Another piece of practical information for potential participants in the Symposium. A new page is devoted to the Symposium accommodation. The official partner of the symposium is the four-star Fregat Hotel, located in a quiet green corner of the city center, 750 meters from the venue. However, we do not limit the choice of a possible settlement and also provide information on alternative options for participants with different budgets.

Hotel Fregat's restaurant also offers assistance with organizing lunch on meeting days. A corresponding poll will be conducted among registered symposium participants later. Do not forget to follow the updates on the site.

Good News Everyone

A couple of good news this morning.

First, today we celebrate the birthday of the head of the steering committee of our symposium, as well as the head of the Karelian mire science, Dr. Oleg Kuznetsov. If you would like, you can wish him a happy birthday by email personally.

Second (but not less important), we extend the registration period for our symposium for another month. The new deadline is March 20, 2020. If for some reason you did not have time to decide whether you will participate in the symposium, you have another month to resolve this issue. The link to the registration form is still on the menu on the left.
